The best tinted moisturizers with SPF are true multitaskers: They have the sheer coverage of a skin tint, the nourishing ingredients of face moisturizer, and the sun protection of your go-to sunscreen. (Though depending on the amount of SPF in the formula and how long you plan to be in the sun, you still might want to add a bonus layer of sunscreen with at least SPF 30, since it can be tough to know if you’re using exactly the right amount of product.) And, they play nicely with your other products while keeping your skin hydrated all day long (thanks, niacinamide, glycerin, and hyaluronic acid!). But finding the right one for your skin type can be tricky, since it can depend on how much coverage you’re looking for and the texture you prefer.
That’s where this list comes in. We tapped makeup artists and dermatologists for their favorite tinted moisturizers with SPF, plus tips on how to apply them and the easiest way to find your perfect shade.

Why it’s worth it: The Live Tinted Hueguard Skin Tint SPF 50 Mineral is packed with skin saviors like butterfly bush flower extract, an antioxidant-rich ingredient that works in tandem with mineral sunscreen filters to block the UVA damage that contributes to signs of aging, like wrinkles and hyperpigmentation. (Don’t sweat: The broad-spectrum formula also catches UVB rays, too.) Despite the zinc oxide, there’s no white cast, no greasy residue—and the formula is buildable, so you can get the level of coverage you’re looking for depending on how much you apply and what you want to conceal. Planning on spending time outside or going for a swim? Hueguard can keep up: It’s water- and sweat-resistant for up to 80 minutes.

“Most days, I'm only wearing concealer (just a dab!), bronzer, and blush. So, I don't need a heavy-ish face product like foundation, but something with enough coverage to even my skin tone. Enter: this tinted moisturizer. It layers perfectly on top of my bronzer and blush and gives me a nice, natural finish. I've tried other tinted moisturizers and, while they're fine, none have given me a dewy and skin-like appearance like this one has.” —Melanie Curry, associate manager of audience development

Why it’s worth it: The Nars Pure Radiant Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 30 is a classic for a reason, according to makeup artist Lauren D’Amelio Ventre, since it “blends beautifully, gives the skin a luminous finish, and offers buildable coverage while still feeling breathable,” she says. (She reaches for it during spring and summer, when her clients are looking for a base product that won’t feel too heavy on the skin.) The formula contains vitamin C to even out your skin tone for a brighter appearance over time, glycerin for fast hydration, and smoothing silicones that act as a great canvas for the rest of your products.

“Most days, I don't have a reason to wear full-on foundation—and this has become my happy medium instead. It offers more coverage than my usual skin tint (just enough to conceal blemishes and dark spots), but feels undetectable on my skin. Even better: It was easy for me to find a match for my tan skin with neutral undertones, which is not the case for a lot of brands. Since I'm so cognizant of sun damage, though, I see the SPF 30 as a nice bonus on top of my usual face sunscreen, not a substitute.” —Deanna Pai, contributing commerce editor

Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 25
Smashbox
Why it’s worth it: Your T-zone can turn into a slip-and-slide with the wrong base product. Enter Smashbox’s Halo Healthy Glow Tinted Moisturizer Broad Spectrum SPF 25—it contains dimethicone, an oily skin-friendly silicone that moisturizes, smooths the skin’s surface, and protects your skin barrier without feeling greasy. While this tinted moisturizer doesn’t mattify, it does act as a primer, so you can expect a dewy finish that won’t budge, even in high sweat or humidity. (You can also follow it up with a layer of powder foundation, if you’re really looking to control shine.)
Heads up: This formula doesn’t meet dermatologists’ recommended SPF 30 minimum, so you’ll want to wear it on top of a more protective sunscreen.

“I’ve been a concealer-only gal for basically all of 2025, but when I have the time (not often) and want a tad more coverage, I love reaching for a skin tint or tinted moisturizer. (I like my skin to breathe! And the thought of wearing full-coverage foundation as I sweat buckets commuting in NYC…I shudder.) Smashbox gets it right, and I know this because it blends in beautifully with just my (clean!) fingers—seriously, no brushes needed. While I can’t pinpoint what in the formula gives it the “primer-infused” quality, I will 100% take it without question. Anything that keeps my base products from sliding in my T-zone? Chef’s kiss.” —Sarah Han, commerce editor

Nicola Dall’Asen
Why it’s worth it: Ilia’s Super Serum Skin Tint SPF 40 is exactly what dry skin needs—a hydrating formula that won’t pill on or cling to rough patches. It has lots of the perks we love about our favorite serums (like moisturizing squalane and soothing niacinamide in an easy-to-use dropper bottle), but with the major bonus of pigment for coverage.
One thing to note: The formula has a distinct (and not always pleasant) smell, although it only lasts for a minute or two. Also, be aware that it may look too light for your skin tone at first—this is to help you see where you’ve already applied the product. But the brand says it’ll match your complexion as it dries down (about 30 to 60 seconds later).

"This is one of my favorite formulas when I can't be bothered to do skin care or makeup. Putting the word 'serum' in the name wasn't a lie; this stuff oozes, goozes, and slathers just like a thick, somewhat oily serum—and that's exactly what lends itself as a seconds-long, rub-in application and instantly hydrating effect." —Nicola Dall’Asen, senior news editor

Why it’s worth it: Sheer coverage, SPF 50, and a glowy finish—this Best of Beauty-winning tint has it all. It also actively balances and defends skin with ectoin, an amino acid that prevents environmental damage, and hyaluronic acid-infused clay that absorbs sebum without drying skin out. The result is a formula that smooths skin without creasing or settling into fine lines, creating an even base that’s ready for blush and bronzer. It’s also long-lasting, so much so that our testers didn’t have to set it with powder (unless you’re looking for some added staying power on hot days). Also key: The Supergoop Protec(tint) Daily SPF Tint is a hybrid formula, meaning it contains both chemical and mineral UV filters, for plenty of protection without a chalky finish.

"As soon as I began blending in this skin tint, I was sold. The formula is lightweight, the shade match is near perfect, and it did a decent job of covering up my dark spots. As an oily skin girly I didn't even have to set it with powder, but if you like a matte finish, you may find this a bit too dewy." —Annie Blay-Tettey, associate beauty editor

Why it’s worth it: The Cle Cosmetics CCC Cream starts out white, yellow, or olive in the tube, then seems to shift to match your skin tone as you rub it in—hence the CCC, which stands for “color control and change” (the more you know). As Allure has previously reported, this is more of a marketing play (the makeup doesn’t actually change color—it comes down to tiny pigments in the product that burst during the application process). But there are still plenty of reasons why staffers loves it. The formula is packed with skin-plumping niacinamide, vitamin C derived from blueberries that brightens skin over time, and moisturizing coconut oil. Plus, the lightweight consistency feels hydrating all day long.

“This product works great when applied with fingers because of the amount of pigment it has. It's got high enough coverage that it masks my skin's unevenness and my less severe blemishes, but it's still light enough to be error-proof. Even if I'm running short on time or energy and fail to properly blend out certain areas, it doesn't really show — hell, this lack of care doesn't show at all through my small, low-quality web camera.” —Nicola Dall’Asen, senior news editor

Why it’s worth it: Give the Beekman 1802 Milk Tint SPF 43 Tinted Primer Serum a shake to mix its priming, tinted, and moisturizing ingredients, and it’s ready to go. The super-lightweight formula feels hydrating, but still has enough pigment to conceal redness and dark circles. Meanwhile, moisturizing goat milk and niacinamide work to fade dark spots over time. And sensitive skin, rejoice—the fragrance-free formula shouldn’t sting your eyes or upset your skin barrier. While it’s technically a primer, our senior commerce editor often wears it instead of foundation (because sometimes, less is more, you know?). It comes in seven shades that adapt to your skin tone as you rub it in for a close match.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do tinted moisturizers with SPF work?
Yes, as long as you choose the right one (and use enough of it). “A tinted moisturizer should ideally have at least SPF 30 to provide adequate protection from the sun for everyday use,” says Mina Amin, MD, a board-certified dermatologist based in Los Angeles. She recommends applying 1/4 teaspoon to your face—that’s about a nickel-sized amount—to make sure you’re getting those SPF benefits.
Questioning your coverage? Just to be on the safe side, D’Amelio Ventre suggests starting with a layer of regular SPF, then applying your tinted moisturizer on top. “I tell my clients to think of sunscreen as their safety net, and their tinted moisturizer as the added bonus of coverage and glow,” she says.
How do I choose the right tinted moisturizer shade?
Finding your shade online can be tough—and finding a tinted moisturizer with SPF that doesn’t leave your skin looking ashy can be even tougher, says Remi Odunsi, a makeup artist based in New York City. Her recommendation? Buy three shades of the same product: one with a warm undertone, one with a neutral undertone, and one with a cool undertone. When you test them out at home, you choose which one is closest to your skin tone or use multiple to mix the right shade. (This can also be helpful if your skin tone changes a lot throughout the year, from winter to summer.)
How do I apply tinted moisturizer?
“Makeup is art, and you should do whatever you want to do, if it works,” Odunsi says. But if you’re looking for a place to start, she likes to use a brush. Your fingers can soak up a lot of product, she explains, and may carry bacteria that you don’t want to spread to your face. With a brush, “less is more,” meaning you can use less product while getting a similar effect—and that, we can get on board with.
How we test and review products
Before reviewing any makeup, we ask questions about a number of factors: What ingredients are in it? Does the brand offer a wide shade range inclusive of consumers with all skin tones and undertones? Is it safe for readers who have sensitive skin or wear contact lenses? Is it on the affordable side or more of a splurge? Is its packaging consciously designed or needlessly wasteful?
For our review of the best tinted moisturizers with SPF, we enlisted the help of multiple editors, writers, contributors, and makeup artists to review the products. This ensures our testing base spans different skin tones, genders, and dermatological conditions. We considered each product’s performance across four primary categories: ingredients, wear and longevity, packaging, and inclusivity. For more on what's involved in our reporting, check out our complete reviews process and methodology page.
Our staff and testers
A beauty product is a personal purchase. You might be searching for a face cream to address persistent dryness or a new nail product to add to your Sunday self-care routine; you may simply be browsing around for the latest launches to hit the hair market. No matter what you seek or your individual needs and concerns, Allure wants to ensure that you love anything we recommend in our stories. We believe that having a diverse team of writers and editors—in addition to the wide range of outside testers and industry experts we regularly call upon—is essential to reaching that goal.
After all, can we really say a skin-care product is the “best” for people over 50 if the only testers we’ve solicited opinions from folks who have yet to hit 30? Can we honestly deem a high-end diffuser worthy of your hard-earned cash if it’s never been tested on curls? We’re proud that our staff spans a wide range of ages, skin tones, hair textures, genders, and backgrounds, which means that we are able to fairly assess any beauty product that comes into the beauty closet.
